The Momus Catalogue of Oddities is a catalogue of weird and wonderful products inspired by old Argos catalogues. It is the development of an older project of the same name, where I focused on the layout and information design rather than the tone and illustration. This version of the project aims to improve and add back in the elements that got left behind in the original project, mainly the horror, illustration and potential characters/story.
The focus however is the practical research and exploration behind my theory research within my project report, How Horror is Defined and Presented in Media. I have made it a point to focus on horror, specifically the weird, eerie, uncanny and the unheimlich as well as how this should be balanced with curiosity and humour. Although these topics are mentioned and explored throughout, this document is a portfolio of the process and development. The project report focuses on these concepts.
The result is a 20-page catalogue like document of 15 plus semi realistic illustrations of product design. These products are laid out in a way inspired by Argos (Argos, 1973) catalogues and are meant to balance a corporate atmosphere with humour and horror.
